This is an IMPORTANT aspect that you will be requested to observe and commit to. Please liaise with the HGC committee, who will advise you of specific requirements for contractors and builders. The requirements enable the neighbourhood’s security contractor to monitor all building sites to prevent an increase in crime that may be associated with building activities.

CSS in conjunction with SAPS are mandated to enforce the following:

Contractors and sub-contractors should be registered.

  • Contractors should ensure that their staff are in possession of proper forms of identification and where appropriate, should have conducted relevant background checks on their staff;
  • All residents/owners are to have copies of all IDs of workers and the name and contact details of all sub-contractors on file, a copy of these documents must be given to Jasper.
  • Contractors should be encouraged to collect and drop off their staff at the site and ensure that their staff remains on the site during work hours.Arrival on foot and sleeping on site are actively discouraged.
  • Owners will be requested to grant permission for the neighbourhood’s security contractor to enter the site from time to time for random inspections and checking of identity documents and/or work permits and passports;
  • Owners are requested to make every effort to secure the building site from the street.
  • It would be greatly appreciated if the owners could notify the area’s security provider of security personnel living on site.
  • When a property is vacant for any reason (either through change of owner or a rezoning), the property must be secured and maintained to prevent sites from getting overgrown and inhabited by squatters and criminals.
  • All workers to be dropped off at the site (no entry on foot).
  • Pavement rubble & sand/cement on roads to be cleared regularly in accordance with by-laws.
  • CSS will work with the SAPS to carry out random police checks.
  • All neighbours should be contacted before work begins with details of planned building activities.

The above measures are not intended to be unduly restrictive but enable the suburb to maintain a pro-active approach to security, in the interests of all residents.
