January 2017

We hope you have a fabulous 2017! Last year was a year of change for the whole world and our neighbourhood was not immune to the changes.  We saw a change in criminal trends and an enormous change in our environment with a whole new community establishing itself on our green belt. So it is not surprising that 2017 has kicked off with a bang! A number of new initiatives will accommodate these changes and further our ongoing community effort to make our area a better place to live.

You will recalll that at our last AGM we shared our plan to ensure that our corporate governance was up to date and properly established. The last major change required was the updating of the HGC Memorandum of Incorporation. The new MOI is aimed primarily at complying with the SARS requirements to maintain our tax exemption status . Please diarise 15 February 2017 to attend the AGM. For more info click here.

There are exciting changes ahead at CSS that we expect to be favourable to our community. Watch your inbox!

The construction of the fence along William Nicol and adjacent to Rosehaven has commenced. You’ll recall that during December we asked for your opinion on the fencing line.  The outcome of the vote by a small margin was to fence off the entire area.  The community will adopt this parkland and will be responsible for the maintenance of the area. We have met with electricians regarding lighting the area and are in discussions with a maintenance team regarding tree trimming and general clean-up maintenance.

We have also started the conversation with the City regarding the care, maintenance and upgrading of Hurlingham Park. Keep a look out for updates on this exciting initiative.

Happily there was only one crime incident during January in our suburb.  During the festive season holiday, there were four incidents – all of which occurred on the same night, 20 December between the hours of 1am and 3am affecting houses between Stafford and Maxwell Macdonald. An ingenious cat burglar lifted electric fences, forced doors open, avoided alarm sensors and stole small, valuable items such as laptops, handbags and a Play Station. Thankfully no-one was approached or harmed.

As you may have noticed the camera upgrade project is fully underway replacing our nearly decade old cameras with 25 new high definition cameras and a further three with Licence Plate Recognition capabilities  We expect this to be completed shortly.  The cameras offer vastly improved visibility for CSS.  It was one of the new cameras that caught two large lorries dumping rubble illegally on the Spruit.
