Dear Resident
August was the month where we each had an opportunity to have a say in the future of our city. And the message has been one of change. The baton of our city has effectively handed to a new local government. It is now for our new mayor and city council to start the hard work of change. As David Potter ward councillor for our neighbors in Randburg and Blairgowrie says, the hard work starts now. Read more here.
Also find out more about what the outcome of the Aug 3 elections mean for the new Mayor and his team here.
Closer to home we have seen continued efforts being made to clean up the George Lea park. This effort is one of co-operation and neighbourliness and impacts not only on Parkmore but also on our adjacent suburb. Read the latest update on this collaborative effort here.
Finding homes for the homeless remains a challenge. This month the residents of ward 103 objected strongly to a homeless shelter being established in Randburg. Whilst the need for such a shelter is abundantly clear, the location remains a debate. As the 'hosts' of many homeless along our section of the spruit, a shelter plays an important role in our efforts to keep the spruit clean and safe. Feed back re the meeting here.
We continue to assist our neighbors at the Sunshine centre in Craighall. This facility cares for, educates and provides rehabilitation therapy for severely handicapped children. Can you assist them with their bacon and cheese drive? Click here to find out how.
Until next month!
